- Apnoea alarm will be triggered if a breath is not registered within the period set for the apnoea time.
- Apnoea time is usually set at 15-20 seconds
- Causes (hover over to see the necessary Tx vs mix&match)
- The patient is apnoeic for greater than the apnoea time set
- Obstruction
- Flow sensor is not calibrated or is faulty
- Management
- Apply controlled ventilation if required
- Check circuit to ensure patent
- Calibrate flow sensor and replace it if necessary
- Increase apnoea time alarm if due to high tidal volume and low RR and no patient compromise
