The RNSH Intensive Care Unit has a team of specially qualified nurses and doctors who work with patients and families at the end of life. Sometimes it is possible for a dying patient to become an organ and/or tissue donor. This gift can be life changing for up to eight people, who might be saved from a life on dialysis or be relieved of the symptoms of severe organ failure.
Our team helps these patients and their families through the difficult decisions around organ and tissue donation, and supports them through the process if they decide to go ahead.
Families that know the wishes of their loved ones about organ and tissue donation are likely to uphold these wishes should the situation arise. If you don’t know the wishes of your loved ones, or they don’t know yours, why not have the conversation?
